If you’re a research university looking to garner your share of venture capital and industry support, you might tend to look at other universities as “the competition.” But a number of public universities in Oregon have decided that joining forces may increase the chances of commercialization for all of them. Four research universities — Oregon Health & Science University, Oregon State University, Portland State University, and the University of Oregon — have collaboratively launched a new website designed to promote interaction with industry.

Innovate Collaborate Oregon (icoregon.net) incorporates a searchable technology portal, allowing visitors to identify and learn more about discoveries and collaboration opportunities at these universities. The participating universities hope the portal will stimulate greater industry access to the latest advances in university research, ultimately enabling the schools to generate more research funding and licensing dollars to continue academic research. They also say it provides the public with an opportunity to learn more about world-class research in the state.
